End of Year Music Review 2015

2016 List

Here we go, here we go, here we go again! The 6th Year of My Year End List!!! This year had some great great albums. I thought the year started out with a bunch of great albums all in the first three months, which just couldn’t last the whole year, and it didn’t. This year had a really top heavy list of albums. My top 3-5 albums were some of my favorite albums in the last five years. I thought hip hop had a little bit of a down year for new artists. Usually there a few new artists that I like, not so much this year. To make up for it some old favorites did have very good projects. Modest Mouse, Belle and Sebastian, Death Cab, The Decemberists, Kendrick Lamar, and Dr. Dre all released something this year. That is very impressive. Yes you read that right, DR. DRE!

As always, I’d love to hear what you guys liked for the year. I don’t listen to everything. Give me your suggestions, your money, and we are now accepting music/band onesies. We want the baby to be hip and cool right out the womb. So if there is a website that can make an Outkast onesie, we would gladly take it. (I’m told this is best viewed using Google Chrome)

Of what I’ve heard, here are my lists… Enjoy.

Album of the Year

Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp a Butterfly

to pimp

My #1 Album of the Year comes from Compton rapper, Kendrick Lamar. To Pimp a Butterfly is a brilliant masterpiece. It is a perfect story and piece of art that ties together beautifully. If people listen to one or two tracks and make a judgement on the album, that is flawed. You must listen to the whole thing to understand the depth and thought of the project. I love it. I was so impressed by Father John Misty this year and I Love You, Honeybear would be #1 any other year. This is the 2nd time Kendrick has topped my list. I think that right now, Kendrick Lamar is on top of his game and the game. Every time he puts out an album, I keep thinking having high hopes, and he’s never let me down. His features on tracks are almost always better than the whole album he is featured on. I kept wondering if I was being biased whenever he was on a track because I always think he is the best. But, in fact, he is really that good.
