Big K.R.I.T.’s much anticipated Def Jam debut Live From the Underground is now available for stream through NPR. Comes out June 5th. Here’s a peak. Enjoy.

Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) – “Bey”
Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) is doing a Top 40 Project where he uses hits and then puts the people that formerly performed the track to shame. I am excited for the Black Star project, but this is nice hold over. Enjoy
Outkast – “ATLiens” Throwback Thursday May 10th, 2012
This is the first of many Throwback Thursday tracks to come. These are all tracks that influenced my musical tastes. I am proud to start off this weekly post with Outkast’s – “ATLiens” released August 27, 1996 on LaFace Records. I remember listening to this track and album in my friend A.J.’s car driving to school. It is because of Outkast that I really became a southern hip-hop fan. I am sure many of you can relate to a song or sound shaping your youth. For me it was this or Korn as my first post. I’m glad I went with this. My favorite line is from Big Boi, Cause I’m cooler than a polar bear’s toenails/Oh hell, there he go again talkin that shit. I love it and wish I was cool enough to use this routinely, but I’m not.
Enjoy.

Big K.R.I.T. – “4evaNaDay” (Video)
This is the official video for Big K.R.I.T.’s title track of his mixtape 4evaNaDay. This is a stand-out track that you might need a decent sound sound system to truly appreciate. Southern Hip-Hop at it’s finest. Watch out for his proper release Live From the Underground on Def Jam June 5th. Enjoy.
Phonte ft. Evidence, Big K.R.I.T., 9th Wonder – “The Life of Kings”
It’s nice to see good artists working with each other and the Phonte/9th Wonder combination is always top notch. I like this song a lot but I wasn’t going to post it until I saw the video. The Evidence verse is really quite funny. When life gives you lemons, let your mom rap the verse. Enjoy.
Aesop Rock and Kimya Dawson are The Uncluded – “Bats”
This is exactly what I thought this would sound like. Kimya Dawson does her cute, folky, kooky sing-songy rhymes. And Aesop Rock delivers his tongue-twisting delivery and kills it as usual. The Uncluded album Hokey Fright will drop at some point after Aesop Rock’s Skelethon (July10th). Here is “Bats”. It is a 6:44 track that just makes me want more. A lot more. The lyrics are included in this particular video(with some typos). Enjoy.

Aesop Rock – “Zero Dark Thirty”
This is the first single off of Skelethon. “Down from a huntable surplus to one, down from a huntable surplus to one”. Woh. July 10th can’t come soon enough. Play this on good speakers and leave some space to head nod. Enjoy.
Jay Electronica – “Dear Moleskine”
This is an elite emcee. I wish he would quit being so weird and just release some more music. I once saw him live, opening for Nas and Talib Kweli and he definitely held his own. He started the show laying on the stage floor soaked in water wearing a tank top(wife beater) and no shoes motionless while a young girl did CPR on him like a drowning Hurricane Katrina victim, then got up and just absolutely killed it. He has been working on a proper studio release for what seems like 10 years. Here is the Just Blaze produced, “Dear Moleskine” off of ?Act II: The Patents of Nobility (The Turn)? . But, who knows it might not be on anything. Also, here is my favorite song by him, “(The Pledge) Eternal Sunshine” it’s perfect. Enjoy.
Danny Brown – “Radio Song”
This guy impresses me so much. XXX was good and here is one of my favorites from that album couple with some cool visuals. Enjoy
El-P – Cancer for Cure and New Single
5 years after his last album, El-P is going to release Cancer for Cure May 22nd. I have been a fan for a few years and am eager to see what he does on his new label, Fat Possum. If “The Full Retard” is any indication of what is to come, this guy refuses to change or compromise. Also here is one of my favorites and the track that really made me an El-P fan, “Smithereens” . S/O to Sev Seveer for putting me on this years ago. Enjoy.
